Leadership and education consultant to the Assistant Superintendent, Principal, Assistant Principal Kenderton Elementary School

Kenderton Elementary School is one of only a handful of elementary schools in Philadelphia who has officially adopted a STEM curriculum as a focus to achieve dramatic academic improvement. In partnership with Temple University, several other community organizations and the STEM Ecosystem the school as developed engineering classes and medical training for its students and teachers.

Doctoring 101 is lead by Kenderton Science teachers and medical student from Temple University Katz Medical School. Students receive authentic medical lab coats and stethoscopes during regular visits to the Temple patient simulation lab. The physician and engineering program are driven by the School District of Philadelphia's NGSS based science curriculum.

While academic results are still being evaluated the qualitative indicators show increased interests in science and mathematics, which are both opportunity areas for the students and teachers at Kenderton. Both programs are entering their second year and expect increases in math and science achievement levels during the 2019-20 school year.

We are indebted to the Carnegie STEM Excellence Pathway facilitators who provided support and guidance during the identification of areas that will result in future academic success.
