Category\nJudge Role<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Category\nJudges will be assigned to a project category based\non their indicated preferences, their experience and education and the need for\njudges in each category. Examples of\ncategories include: Junior (6th<\/sup> grade) Biological Sciences,\nIntermediate (7th<\/sup> and 8th<\/sup> grade) Chemistry, or Senior (9th<\/sup>-12th<\/sup>\ngrade) Physics. Category Judges will evaluate\nstudent projects in their assigned category and will award a 1st place, 2nd\nplace, 3rd place and 4th place winner in that category. More than one 2nd<\/sup>,\n3rd<\/sup>, and 4th<\/sup> place winner may be nominated depending upon\nthe number of projects entered into the category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the day of the fair, Category\nJudges will use a combination of reviewing student abstracts, previewing project-related\nmaterials provided by the student(s) and interviewing students to judge the\nprojects which have been assigned to them. Category judges will then caucus\nwith the other judges in their category to choose the winners for their\ncategory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n PRSEF provides extensive training and guidance materials for\njudges. You are encouraged to review these before the day of the\nfair. Materials can be found at www.PittsburghScienceFair.org<\/a>\nunder the Judges and Volunteers tab. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Registering to be a Category Judge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n If you already have\nan account at https:\/\/www.STEMipshere.org\/PRSEF<\/a>, log in and look for the Judge\/Volunteer\nRegistration widget on the right side of your screen. Select \u201cCategory Judge\u201d\nand then click on the red \u201cRegister\u201d button. Continue to the next step in the user\nmanual \u2013 Complete your registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you do not have\nan account at https:\/\/www.STEMisphere.org\/PRSEF<\/a> yet, you will need to create an account. You can click on \u201cRegister to Be a Judge or\nVolunteer here\u201d at https:\/\/www.STEMisphere.org\/PRSEF<\/a> or you can go\ndirectly to https:\/\/www.STEMisphere.org\/PRSEF\/judge-volunteer-registration<\/a> to create your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Enter your name and\nthe email address you would like us to use to contact you with fair information.\nThe email address you enter here will also be the username you will use to\naccess the system in the future. Next choose your password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n From the \u201cRegistration\nType\u201d drop down menu, choose \u201cCategory Judge\u201d and then click the \u201cI\u2019m not a\nrobot\u201d box. Click on the red \u201cRegister\u201d\nbox to continue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Complete your\nregistration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n On the registration\npage, you choose your preferred categories based on your areas of interest and\nexperience. You can choose up to four categories and list them in your order of\npreference. The judge assignment\ncommittee will endeavor to assign you to your top preferred category, but may\nneed to assign you to another category where judges are lacking. We appreciate\nyour flexibility in judging categories outside of your area of expertise if you\nare asked to do so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n You will see\nadditional information fields like your area of expertise, education, address, phone\nnumber, and job title. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Confirm your contact\ninformation then click on the red \u201cSubmit Registration\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You will receive a\nconfirmation email from CSC STEMisphere at CSC STEMisphereInfo at STEMisphereInfo@CarnegieScienceCenter.Org<\/a>. Check the\nemail address you entered during registration. Please check your\njunk mail folder if you do not see this email. \nAll other fair information will come from the email address PRSEF@CarnegieScienceCenter.org<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Changing your\ninformation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n If you need to\nchange your email address or phone number,go to https:\/\/www.STEMisphere.org\/PRSEF<\/a> and log in. Make your corrections in the Update\nInformation section and click on the red \u201cUpdate\u201d button. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Unregistering to judge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n While we appreciate\nyour volunteering to judge at the fair, we understand the sometimes plans\nchange and you will not be able to participate as you originally intended. If\nyou need to cancel your registration, go to https:\/\/www.STEMisphere.org\/PRSEF<\/a> and log in. \nScroll down to \u201cUnRegister\u201d, enter the reason you need to unregister and\nthen click on the red \u201cUnregister\u201d button. \n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Filling multiple roles<\/strong> If you are filling more than one role (Qualified Scientist and Category Judge for example), you will need to switch between profiles to access all of the applicable forms and functionality. To move between profiles, look to the horizontal menu bar just below the black and white speckled area of your screen.
